La Malle des Indes is an artists' collective based in Paris. Founded in 2012, La Malle des Indes facilitates the creation of collaborative pieces, in which artists work exploring the areas between traditional art forms, sharing their talents and backgrounds to create truly multi-dimensional and interdisciplinary work.
The complexity of a human being, of a culture or a society can only find its artistic expression and echo in the collaboration of artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and in the sudden intake of breath that is the space between different art forms.
What is a "malle des Indes"? Literally, from the original French, it is a large case or trunk used by the magician from which he can produce his rabbits, doves, fire-jugglers, and absolutely anything else in the world (as long as it's magic). Calling our collective La Malle des Indes, we envisioned it as the portable, nondescript valise capable of producing the wild liberties and risks of the magic show, an artistic plurality that dives in deep and explores from all sides. In short, work that inspires in us and our audience a sense of childlike fascination and wonder. We are searching for that collective "aaah!"
A "malle," a suitcase, is also an invitation on an adventure, a desire to travel and make contact with others - other art forms, other spectators, other cultures. For us, this magic suitcase represents our means, as artists, of connecting separate worlds.
